Dear All,
Hope you've had a good Eid!! This is my fourth match.. I started in 2011. I am interested in Pathology and IM. I have 1 year research assistant at NIH pediatric tumor pathology, followed by postdoctoral fellowship at University of Mississippi Medical Center and I have two publications (fifth author in both) . Now I am a hematologist at Alpha Laboratories in Egypt. I graduated in 2005, ecfmg certified, scores 215, 202 and cs second attempt. I am a Green Card holder and I speak fluent English..
On average I get 2 interviews, that appear to go well. I have strong LOR from NIH by US physicians since 2011, and I will get 1 from Alpha labs for Match 2015.
I am applying this year, so excited and hopeful, and I want any advice, support especially for my Personal statement and how to make my CV strong. My previous ones were reviewed before by a US pathologist back in 2011, but I have a strong feeling they are defective because i dont get ENOUGH interviews.
I'm going to try to break up the good and bad things about your CV and then try to come up with ways to help you increase your chances for matching this year based on the info provided above.
Pros - No gaps in CV recently (working in Egypt) - Research (at NIH) with 2 publications - Postdoctoral fellowship in an American University - Green card holder - Fluent English
Cons - Graduated 2005. > 5 years - CS second attempt - USMLE scores are on the lower end
Things to improve your chances - Take step 3 and score high >250 - Observership - for exposure, recent LORs and US clinical experience - Submit abstracts, case presentation and/or posters to journals/societies in the US - review personal statement and update CV
