Hello everyone,
I always read veryuseful posts on this page and it really helped me a lot many times, last WednesdayI got my step1 score (236) and I thought that my exam experience will not behelpful to anyone but some members here asked me to write it so here I am.
I graduated from AlexandriaUniversity about 5 years ago and I now live and work in ksa with my wife I decidedto prepare for step1 about 1 year ago , I started my studying as everyone doesby watching Kaplan videos, at first my preparation was very slow and because ofmy work sometimes I didn't study at all.
I started with (my first read)
physiology Kaplan videos + LNs (2 months )
pathology goljan audios + 125 pages ( 3weeks)
biochemistry Kaplan videos + LNs ( 2 weeks )
pharmacology Kaplan videos ( 3weeks)
behavioral science Kaplan videos + LNs (3 weeks)
high yield neuroanatomy (5 days ) didn't finish it which was a big mistake
Then
First aid (first read) + usmlrx Q bank about 30 % only (1 month)
Usmle World online timed random blocks (2weeks)
I finished about 30 % of it then due to work issues I had to withhold studying for about 2 months and I had to postpone my exam which was scheduled on sep 30
Then on October 2013 I resumed studying with reading first aid again to refresh my memory (2weeks )
then I resumed UW it took me about 1.5 month to finish it with average score 65%
then I did the incorrect UW Q (2 weeks)
FA third time + pathoma videos
UW second Time also timed random (2 weeks) with average score 90%
NBME 13 259 (2 weeks before the exam)
Revised FA again
NBME 15 257 ( 2 days before the exam )
The real deal 236
What I did right
Doing FA more than 3 times
Doing UW twice
Doing pathoma
What I did wrong
Starting FA late
Depending only on UW q bank you have do Kaplan for some subjects for the low yield stuff
Underestimation of some subjects like neuroanatomy , gross anatomy and immunology ( my exam was full of neuro)
Lots gaps in my study plane ( you have to stay focused )
Exam day tips
Don't drink too much coffee
Try to manage your time effectively during each block
Don't jump to answers without careful reading
If you don't know the answer of any Q mark it and continue your block don't waste your time thinking
Thank you and goodluck to every one
