started preparation at February 2011. from then till August i only finished 2 subjects ( pharma and micro) , the real study started afterwards, after i paid the MONEY. this is ur first lesson, u wont start studying right until u pay the money.
the study plan was, finishing all kaplan videos of a subject and taking notes on the book then read the entire book. that was my first read.
i used Goljan audio and book instead of kaplan as it was ugly ( at least for me)
then i did the first aid first read. very good book , but u need to read it many times as u will need every word on it.
then i did kaplan 2nd read then i lost hope that i would get tested because of problems in my application.
afterwards i did USMLE world Q band online for a month, as u wont need more than a month, and took a huge amount of notes on first aid
then doing kaplan 3rd read and first aid 2nd read.
then lastly USMLE world online Q bank online again for 2 weeks, adding more notes to first aid.
timeline:
for kaplan: first read , each suject may take 3 weeks to a month including videos.
2nd read, 1 week for each subject
3rd read, 3-4 days for each subject
for first aid: first read, 30-50 pages a day ( 10-15 days)
2nd read , 5-7 days
Usmle world Q band , first time, 1 month
2nd time , 10 days
some notes
- i think the most important advantage i had was that i realy enjoyed studying this step ( even though many times i was just convincing myself iam) , please try to enjoy it and to realy learn it not just study it.
- videos are very helpful and for me it was a must, it make it easier and more interesting and wil help regulating your time. it s a must for bio, behavioral ( statistics part), physio, pathology
- start with anatomy, physio, ..., ending with bio, micro , pharma and pathology ( pathology will be a very good review for all other subjects)
- your notes will be very helpful at the night prior to the test. as it it will be easy and fun to review and of course of high yeild
- what i did wrong: 1) NBME forms are very good, as they are real usmle Qs , shows u the real format and lenght of the Qs, and may be closer to the exam. than usmle world .
2) read first aid more , at least 3 times
3) cant remeber now
by the way , on the exam. i found many many Qs that asked for things i didnt even saw or heard before, i made so many lucky guesses and apparantely that worked for me.
good luck, and i hope i helped a little , if u have Qs just ask.
