I wanna talk a liitle bit ab my experience of step1..
*exam date:1st wk of september,2009
*center:pennplaza,ny
*score:225/94
*preparation time:interrupted 5 months and serious 4months
*material used:Kaplan notes+dvds,FA,Goljan path audio,UW q bank,all NBME forms
*my tips:
-Use kaplan for all subjects, but for path Goljan rocks.
-for kaplan vidoes these are must watch:behavioral, immunology, biochem, genetics.
-U may not need goljan notes if u listen to his tapes.
-FA is fair enough for anatomy, pharma, micro, biochem, neurology.
*suggested strategy:
-start by anatomy+physiology..then..biochem+micro/immuno..then..pathology+pharma..then behav..I used to study 2 subjects at a time;less boring,isnt it?
-after finishing 1st reading from kaplan and goljan,do asecond one from the same sources beside doing FA and UW subject wise.dont finish all UW questions in subject wise,a block per subject is good.
-then stick to FA+UW mixed...Try to finish FA at least 3 times and UW two times.
-for images and slides:kaplan slides review(last video in kaplan path),FA colored pages,UW
I`d like to emphasize more on importance of that magic book, the FA.It really saves alot of time and effort, instead of going over kaplan many times. If U add few notes from UW,So u`ve got everything u need to ace the exam..Memorize all its pages but make sure that u understand the concept(s) behind what u commit to ur memory.
-the best approach to UW is to use it as a learning tool rather than assessment one.study the explanations and know why right is right and why wrong is wrong.
-Behav science including statistics is a big headache.U `ll not be able to understand anything before u start u do some questions.dont underestiamte that subject;it is very high yield and u`ll get 2-3 questions in each test block.
*NBME forms:
A must..I know there are some ppl who still take the exam and score high without doing a single nbme form. But why u risk ur score and attempt.what if u failed or scored low(la qaddar allah)?.NBME is the only trusted way to assess ur performance and readiness.and i think it is worth the $.
Do at least 2 of them..i suggest 4 and 5..early and later in ur prep.take their performance sheet seriously and work on ur wk points accordingly...and rememeber DO NOT take the real test unless u get more than 500 on any of the NBMEs.
*Finally..Be patient..take ur time..keep confident..live ur life and dont forget it is just an exam
GL to all of u.
