Dear Eamtar members,
This is my feedback on step2 ck exam which i took recently.. Score is yet to be released!
First and MOST important: PLEASE take time management seriously in the exam. I was told that before the test but didn't expect how long it really was. You really don't have time to re-read any question or to take your time thinking of the options. I did that the first couple of blocks and ended up not having time to answer the last few questions in those blocks. So my advice for you is before the test always do questions in uworld timed and leave a minimum of 5 minutes extra in the timed uworld block coz in the real test you won't have that time. i did uworld timed but still ran out of time so give yourself that buffer time.
2) Peds: A lot of focus on immunodeficiency diseases. many many questions for some reason! i got around 10 just on that. straight forward but know it well. The first aid book has a good table on them for summary.
a few qs on vaccines, hematology, cardiology they gave me clinical pic and asked for diagnosis.
3) Obgyn: the basic questions we all know. infections, CIN, abruptio placentae etc. But did see some unfamiliar questions..had to make intelligent guesses. nothing major
4) Psych: Long stems, lots of gibberish in the stem, many old demented people and they want you to differentiate depression from dementia..
only a couple of questions on drugs (SSRIs for OCD ttt and Carbamazepine side effects)
5) Ethics: Usual scenarios. patient who is schizophrenic, who makes her decisions? inmate doesn't want treatment and will let himself die, do you let him make that decision?etc. not many. maybe 5 questions all in all.
6) Surgery: Many trauma questions! glad i focused on that chapter a lot. Please read it from Master the Board plus from Kaplan surgery book and do the uworld questions on it twice. Very important! almost half questions on surgery were on trauma! mostly "what's the next best step in management?" the usual things, pneumothorax, hydrothorax, abdominal bleeding etc
7) medicine: some questions were short and too easy, some too long and had no idea what the answer was, and some questions in between in terms of difficulty.
lots of endocrine questions, know the normal lab values like electrolytes etc before taking the test so you don't waste time looking it up in the exam.
lots of neuro questions. nothing too hard, the usual questions exactly just like uworld. if you know the scenarios from uworld it's more than enough for neuro at least that's my impression. disc herniation, sciatica, ankylosing spondylitis etc.
rheumatology questions were in a good amount too: mainly what's the diagnosis ( CREST, etc)
infectious: lyme disease (two questions),
lots of arthritis questions. What to do next? Tap joint.. what will you see in synovial fluid? How do you treat it? What' the most likely organism. Know it all!
GI: peptic ulcer, peds had some GI questions (meconium ileus, intestinal obstruction, etc)
Hapatology/gallbladder: many many questions on it! Anything you see in uworld! hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, cholangitis, cholangiocarcinoma, etc
8)Statistics: only a total of 3 that are similar to step1 (ppv, RR etc) and the rest are ALL drug ads and abstracts! Plz focus on it! got around 3 every few blocks.
basically...in my opinion, if you had to pick only ONE source to study from and review from, use uworld as your study material not testing material. and train yourself on time management and you'll be fine!
Good luck!
PS: got a handful of xrays (no big deal just pneumothorax, diaphragmatic hernia, intestinal obs) etc. a couple of CTs and a couple of MRI (disk herniation)
two EKGs.
Pityriasis Rosea picture of a person's back with the herald patch so clear
Acne picture "photo"
Steven-Johnson's picture "photo"
nothing on intracranial bleeds photos ! ya khsara!
Lyme photo.
Best,
